Fans in the News – Last Week of May 2014

All tangled up in “huh?!” A piece about an upcoming book on crazy Bob Dylan fans from Rollingstone really left me scratching my head today. From a fan recording a rare bootleg from their armpit in a secret wire, to a female fan taking a rare encounter with the singer to ask if he was ever breast fed, to a fan being “roughed up” by Dylan himself for going through his trash, you can take a gander at the article HERE.

popuTwo of my biggest pet peeves in fan communities that tend to go hand in hand, are fans creating drama amongst themselves or other fan communities, and the fact that fans are not using their free time for better causes than to make/participate in said drama. Populove, a concept by Tim Cox of RadioArtpop, is going to be a mass movement for fans to not only create peace amongst each other, but to also participate in ways to help others. Taking a photo of yourself by yourself at an arms-length angle, or with friends, is called a Selfie (just in case you’ve been living under a rock and needed an update). A badge of accomplishment for any fan, even before the term was coined, is getting a selfie with a celebrity. Some people have this goal to get a selfie with their reserved idols, while others describe their hobby as collecting celeb selfies. If you want to take part in a budding community that celebrates this hobby, join Me and My Stars (accessible in English and German) LINK HERE.
